We chose to do our project on trying our very best to increase the populations of bees by educating elementary students about their importance in our environments and communities so that they remember this information throughout the rest of their lives. They are the next generation, and they are the people who someday will take charge.
Bees alone pollinate over 1/3rd of our crops. Some examples are that they pollinate the food we feed to our livestock, and also our fruit, veggies, and so much more! According to Marla Spivak, a very well educated entomologist, due to the fact that bee populations in the United States have decreased over two million managed hives since World War II, Ms Spivak and her team think that the U.S. is now down to probably two million compared to four-and-a-half million in the year of 1945. If we don't make a change now, it might be too late. So with your help, Operation Bee will make a difference in our communities and environments! We hope with all of our hearts that bees will someday gain back their numbers, but that won't happen without you! Special thanks to Ms Spivak for letting us utilize her informative video! |
